Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan


Biography:


He was born on May 20, 1971 in Gyumri. His parents are Persian Armenians from the village of Sangibaran in Iran. In 1971, the whole family immigrated and settled in Gyumri, then in 1977,


moving to Yerevan.


Education, spiritual vocation and service in 1978 - 1988. studied at Yerevan School No. 156.


1988 - 1994 studied at Gevorgyan Theological Seminary.


In 1994 Anania was ordained a deacon by Bishop Arabajyan.


In 1995 he graduated from the seminary with excellent results, after which he was ordained a celibate priest by Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin I on July 23 of the same year, on the feast of the Transfiguration of Jesus Christ.


After his ordination, until 1998, he was the scepter of Karekin I, Catholicos of All Armenians.


In 1996 was appointed editor-in-chief of the official magazine "Echmiadzin" of the Holy Mother See of Etchmiadzin. He is a founding member of the first Christian television project in Armenia, "Kantegh".


1996-1998 also taught interpretation of the Holy Liturgy, hymnology and general church history at the Gevorgyan Theological Seminary and the Vazgenyan School.


1998-2000 studied at the University of Leeds, England, Holy Resurrection Theological College, Murfield.


1996-2000 was a member of the central body organizing the 1700th anniversary of the declaration of Christianity as the state religion in Armenia. 2000 Under the direction of Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, he was appointed the inspector of the Vazgenyan School in Sevan. He founded the "Lusavorich" choir of the Vazgenyan school.


in 2002 defends the doctrinal thesis "The problem of the Anointing of the Sick in the Armenian Church" thesis and receives the 4 degrees of private doctrine.


in 2002 along with the position of inspector, he was also appointed the director of the newly established Press, Information and Public Relations Office of the Mother See, was the chairman of the board of directors of "Shogakat" television company. He founded and hosted the "Know the Gospel" program.


In 2002, in parallel, he was also appointed vicar of the diocese of Aragatsotn.


In 2003 On May 31, the leader of the Canadian Armenian Diocese was elected at the 20th parliamentary assembly of the Canadian Armenian Diocese[4]. On June 22 of the same year, on the feast of Saint Etchmiadzin, he was ordained a bishop by Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II. During his leadership years, he founded the organization "Hay Tun" for the purpose of charity to help the helpless elderly and the sick, as well as to support the Iraqi Armenians who emigrated from Iraq to Canada due to the war, formed youth groups, a children's choir, etc.


2012 year. He defended his doctoral thesis in theology and biological ethics at Concordia University in Montreal.


In 2013 Deputies of the Armenian Diocese of Canada elected the leader of the Armenian Diocese of Canada instead of Bagrat Galstanyan, Father Aren Jebejian, which led to conflict and mutual accusations among the supporters of the current and former leaders of the diocese on social networks[fact?].


In 2013 was awarded the Diamond Jubilee Medal of Queen Elizabeth II of England.


Since 2014, he has been the spiritual director of the international spiritual festival of contemporary art "FRECO".


He published many theological, public, preaching, cultural articles, the spiritual-contemplative book "Koher".


in 2023 received the title of archbishop.


Leader of the Diocese of Tavush


2015 H.E. His Eminence Father Bagrat Bishop Galstanyan was appointed the head of the Diocese of Tavush by the patriarchal direction of the Supreme Patriarch Karekin II and Catholicos of All Armenians.


His author's program "The Bible in our life" is broadcast on "Ijevan" TV station.


"One community, one school" program was implemented in Tavush, within the framework of which Sunday schools were opened in Achajur, Paravakar, Dilijan, Navur, Verin Karmiraghbyur, Choratan and other communities.


2017 On July 25, by the direction of His Holiness, Reverend Bagrat was appointed a member of the Supreme Spiritual Council.


Bagrat Archbishop Galstanyan regularly visits border guard military units, communities, implements many other programs.
