Holy Monday symbolizes the second day of creation

Holy Monday symbolizes the second day of creation, when God parted the waters and created the heavens. This day also symbolizes the second period, when the whole universe was corrupted, and only Enoch pleased God and was taken to heaven (Gen. 5:21-24).

During the morning service, the gospel readings mention the story of the "cursed fig tree", when Jesus, on his return from Bethany to Jerusalem, cursed the barren fig tree with a curse, testifying: "And whatever you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive" (Matt. 21:22). According to the 7th century scholar Stepanos Syunets, the fig tree is the "circumcised" people, to whom the hungry Christ came and found no fruit, but only a delusional life, so the fig tree withered when He came.
