Macron arrived in New Caledonia amid unrest
French President Emmanuel Macron arrived in New Caledonia after the riots on the island, reports ABC.
The media reports that Macron should try to find ways of dialogue after the island's parties rejected the offer to hold a joint video conference with the president, and Prime Minister Gabriel Atal's offer to travel to Paris for negotiations remained unanswered.
It should be noted that protests started in New Caledonia in May due to the bill expanding the electoral rights of the French living on the island. Opponents of the document believe that it could weaken the electoral opportunities of local residents and strengthen the influence of Paris.
