Pashinyan-Blinken-Von der Leyen meeting cannot lead to escalation. Ministry of State, Baku

The US State Department does not agree with the statement of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry that the meeting between Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken on April 5 in Brussels is "obviously one-sided, biased and based on double standards". State Department spokesman Matthew Miller said in a briefing: "The focus of this meeting is economic resilience to help Armenia diversify its trade partnerships and address humanitarian needs. I can't understand why it could be escalating or worry any country in the world," Miller said. Recall that the day before, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry issued a statement in which it claimed that the EU and the US would share are the responsibility for any "destabilizing" action of Armenia. Baku commented on the meeting to be held in Brussels on April 5, within the framework of which the ways of tripartite cooperation contributing to the development of Armenia will be discussed.

The statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan stated that the joint conference of the EU, Armenia and the USA is "obviously one-sided, biased and based on double standards".

"This conference is 'not transparent, lacks regional inclusiveness, and runs counter to building much-needed trust and integration in the region.' Instead of pushing the Armenian side to peaceful negotiations, this forum "creates new dividing lines and spheres of influence" in the region. Against the background of "revanchist sentiments" in Armenia, the openly pro-Armenian public position of Washington and Brussels can create a dangerous illusion that the EU and the US will support it in "the next possible provocations against Azerbaijan". In this case, the EU and the US will share responsibility for any "destabilizing actions" by Armenia.

At a time when a unique opportunity is being created to achieve lasting peace, stability and security based on the fundamental norms and principles of international law, we once again call on all parties to refrain from actions that could have a negative impact on peace efforts and in the region provoke new waves of escalation and tension," the statement said.

On October 5, 2023, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen issued a joint statement after a meeting in Granada. Ursula von der Leyen informed about the preparation of a joint EU-US event to support Armenia
