"Publication". Ajapahyan's nephew was detained and severely beaten in the "neighborhood".

"Hraparak" newspaper writes: "The struggle against the authorities, the clergy, invades the personal space. On February 23, the police forces sent from Yerevan to Gyumri detained the nephew of the spiritual leader of Shirak Diocese, Archbishop Mikael Ajapahyan, who was at the throat of the authorities. The 31-year-old man was detained as part of the anti-drug operation. In the "district" of Shirak, he was brutally beaten, only to be released.

Ajapahyan confirmed this information in a conversation with us and gave details. "They were from Yerevan, from some special department, they were detained as part of the fight against narcotics, 15-20 people from the city were detained, including my nephew. Naturally, they threatened the family members in the morning and then beat them.

This was done by the police of Yerevan, the police of Gyumri have nothing to do with what happened." Ajapahyan's nephew is an architect by profession. We asked if the incident was due to his sharp criticism of the authorities. "Ask them... If 15-20 people are detained, but only one is beaten, how do you interpret it?"
