"Pyunik" coach Yeghishe Melikyan indicated in which case he will lead the Armenian national team

According to Sport.ua, Yeghishe Melikyan, who is known to Ukrainian fans as a football player and also as a coach, is being considered for the position of head coach of the Armenian national team. In the second half of the previous decade and the beginning of this decade, the 45-year-old specialist led Kamensk "Stal" and "Lviv", and in recent years he has been managing Yerevan "Pyunik".

The Armenian specialist answered the Sport.ua journalist's questions regarding leading the Armenian national team, writes Armsport.am .

- Is it true that you are considered one of the candidates for the head of the Armenian national team?

- This is a very delicate question. I don't want to comment, but I will say a few words. There has been a conflict between "Pyunik" FC and the Football Federation of Armenia for several years now. Since the beginning, I have supported the president of the club where I work. I fight for him, both on and off the football field. I think this fact will prevent me from leading the Armenian national team. Many ambitious people work in our federation, for whom the result is not as important as personal image. I am sure that they understand that I can really help the national team, but for those reasons they will not take that step.

- And if we assume that the football society, particularly the fans of Armenia and the independent media, will express a united opinion that they want to see you in the position of the head of the national team, is this step possible on your part?

- If the society really wants it and knows about it, only then I am ready to take appropriate steps. The opinion of the fans and the opinion of the club president are very important to me. The dispute is very serious.

- And what is the reason for that dispute?

- I don't want to talk about it. I will only say that it is so serious that "Pyunik" is 99 percent ready to leave the league.
