South Korea no longer has a president.
South Korea's parliament has voted to impeach President Yun Seok-yeol, who made an unsuccessful attempt to impose martial law in the country last week, Yonhap reported.
The impeachment was supported by 204 of the 300 members of the country's unicameral parliament, the National Assembly. 85 parliamentarians voted against, three more abstained, and 8 votes were declared invalid.
Impeachment required the support of at least two-thirds of the deputies. However, the six opposition parties that initiated the procedure have only 192 seats, so they needed to secure the support of at least eight members of the ruling People's Power party.
