The consequences of Pashinyan's "political flexibility" during the 44-day war. Khudaferin Reservoir is under the full control of Azerbaijan, hydropower plant will be opened soon 168.am

On March 15, the Azerbaijani media, referring to the ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Azerbaijan, Seyyed Abbas Mousavi, wrote that in the coming days, the presidents of Iran and Azerbaijan will visit Khudafer to participate in the opening ceremony of the Khudafer and Giz Galas hydropower plants. Before that, the heads of energy departments of Iran and Azerbaijan met in Tehran.

It should be noted that this border reservoir of Iran and "occupied" Artsakh is a strategically important junction, and that Khudaferin bridge and reservoir came under the full control of Azerbaijan as a result of the 44-day war. In particular, the Azerbaijani side announced this on October 18, 2020.

In an interview given to 168.am on June 22, 2023 , the former Deputy Chief of Defense Staff, Lt. General Tiran Khachatryan, referring to the conflicting information about the combat operations in the Khudaferin Reservoir area during the 44-day war, its control, as well as Pashinyan's statement, that the Azerbaijani side has set a precondition for the cease-fire, that the Armenian forces should retreat along the Araks to the Khudaferin reservoir, so that the reservoir is under the control of Azerbaijan, and they can take water from there for irrigation purposes, he noted.

" First of all, let me say that at that time I was not aware that the Azerbaijani side made such a demand, I heard about it for the first time from Pashinyan's statement . As for the conflicting information related to Khudaferin, at my place, I did not have any information from the media, I could not follow the information flows at that time, but I can say that at the beginning of October, the Khudaferin reservoir and bridge were definitely in the depth of our defense. And the first retreats there began on October 15, and the loss of control of the Khudaferin bridge occurred on October 18-19."
