The UN Secretary General has warned of a catastrophic famine in the Gaza Strip

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said at least 1.1 million people in the Gaza Strip have run out of food and are at risk of catastrophic starvation. His words are quoted by TASS.

According to him, "Palestinians in Gaza are experiencing terrible anger and suffering."

"I call on the Israeli authorities to ensure the full and unhindered access of humanitarian supplies to Gaza," Guterres said.

He added that the international community should fully support humanitarian efforts.

The UN has also previously said famine is imminent in the northern Gaza Strip unless hostilities stop and greater access to humanitarian aid is granted. A UN report said acute food shortages in the Gaza Strip had "deepened and widened".

Earlier, the World Health Organization announced the "unprecedented in recent history" famine in the Gaza Strip.
