My good friend Edgar Ghazaryan is quite right in saying that it was an extremely wrong decision to hold extraordinary parliamentary elections in 2021 against the background of the post-war shock. Let's remember that the line of internal political confrontation of those days was between Nikol Pashinyan and Robert Kocharyan. the first was the leader of the defeated government, the second was the unofficial leader of the movement unfolding on the street. In the case of Pashinyan, everything is clear. he needed the elections to "digest" the defeat of the 44-day war and to legitimize the extension of his power, at least until 2026. In this sense, Edgar Ghazaryan is absolutely right. But who "helped" Pashinyan to realize his agenda? In 2021, Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Serzh Sargsyan, the parliamentary opposition, to put it mildly, were not enthusiastic about the idea of early elections and offered Pashinyan other political options for removal. But the idea of Robert Kocharyan was different, and I repeat, he was the informal leader of one of the two burdens of internal political confrontation. Pashinyan had not yet started consultations with the parliamentary opposition, when Robert Kocharyan publicly announced that he was in favor of early elections and would "bear" them. I am not discussing the motives now. they may be unjustified expectations of Moscow's support, political miscalculation or another circumstance that I don't want to elaborate on. Here, it was Kocharyan's decision to "wear" that confronted other segments of the opposition, including the parliamentary opposition, because if there is an agenda on the street the dictating power generates such a narrative, the oppositionists opposing it could be perceived as "traitors supporting Nikol". Here, this is the truth: the "coverage" of the special elections in 2021 belongs to Pashinyan and Kocharyan. the first wanted to keep power, the second wanted to come to power. But even in the case of 2021 extraordinary elections, it was possible to remove Pashinyan, if the same Kocharyan did not reject a wonderful initiative, the author of which was First President Levon Ter-Petrosyan. He proposed to go to the elections with a joint list, which will be headed by the first three presidents, on the condition that none of them will claim power, which will be formed by a broad consensus. , who was sure that he would "bear". Thus, the context of the Pashinyan-Kocharyan contrast helped Pashinyan to reproduce and extend his lost power.
